Painting tip from Shuang Li’s “Fearless Waterscapes:” When you mix colors, don’t think about their names. Think, instead, about what you want from that color.
Why: “The names,” says Shuang Li in her new Fearless Waterscapes, “a lot of times, don’t tell you anything.”
When Shuang Li thinks about her color needs, she rarely thinks about a colors name. Instead of thinking about colors, she thinks about what she needs from the color. She starts with how dark or light the mixture needs to be. And once she has that established she thinks about how warm or cool the mixture she needs to be.
