Text & Texture in Mixed Media Collage with Ann Baldwin

Understand collage from the first layer to the final glaze with the collage techniques of mixed media artist Ann Baldwin. In this art instruction dvd, Ann teaches you how to combine the possibilities of text with the versatility of acrylics. First Ann begins with a discussion of abstract design. She shows you how you can practice your own design skills with something as simple as magazine cut outs. Next Ann introduces texture painting techniques and walks you through a series of step by step art lessons. Ann's short texture tutorials simplify and clarify those wonderful Golden mediums.

Once you've learned those artist tips, Ann moves into a complete abstract collage. She shows you how to collage torn computer printouts with textured layers to create a rich abstract design. You'll use everything you learned in those original 11 acrylic texturing demonstrations to finish a wonderful abstract painting.

The workshop includes acrylic painting techniques that Ann uses with cheesecloth, screens, cardboard, tissue and newspaper.  She creates dramatic relief with heavy gel and molding paste. You'll shape interesting edges and solve design problems with creative layering. Elevate your art one layer at a time in Text & Texture in Mixed Media Collage with Ann Baldwin.

About The Artist: Ann Baldwin
Ann Baldwin was born and raised in London, England. She studied French at the University of Sussex, and English Literature at the University of London. Writing poetry and radio plays in her spare time, she taught literature and drama in London schools until 1990. Baldwin began painting seriously in 1991, just after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. Initially a traditional watercolorist, she began experimenting with many different media and gradually made the move towards collage and mixed media painting. In 1996 Baldwin formed the connection between her love of literature and her work as a visual artist, focusing on Shakespeare - the man, his characters, and the text of his plays. She had always found London theaters fascinating places,... Read More
