Join Lisa as she gives you the tools to create with the written word. To begin her workshop, she walks though the entire alphabet , combining basic strokes into intricate characters. You'll learn to judge letter spacing and line quality as you work with a variety of tools, including broad nib pens, felt markers and square brushes. Lisa then pushes beyond the basics with her signature funky letters and beautiful background techniques. She stains and seals fabrics to create decorative washes and adds special effects with ink. She ties everything together in the Bali lantern. The lantern is a unique creation, perfect for honoring a special occasion or just for the joy of making the lantern. It can be easily adapted to a variety of media and purposes and a great project to do with children. These lanterns are fun and beautiful! She combines simple materials with meaningful text to build a project perfect for special events and seasonal celebrations. About The Artist:
Lisa Engelbrecht

Lettering artist Lisa Engelbrecht teaches workshops and classes around the country specializing in lettering on fabric and alternative surfaces, experimental lettering and the creative process. Engelbrecht was an instructor of calligraphy at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California where she instituted a Certificate in Calligraphy. (This program was originated by her mentors and teachers, Larry and Marsha Brady in 1975.)
Lisa Engelbrecht has been a member of the faculty of seven international lettering conferences and was an instructor at the Art and Soul, Artfest and Art Unraveled collage conferences. She was the keynote speaker at the Oregon Book Arts “Focus” Conference in June, 2005. Engelbrecht was a featured lecturer on her sidewalk chalk art pieces at the Discoveries conference.
