Martha Saudek began painting at the age of five and her love for art has never faded. Only after a career in teaching, however, was she able to pursue it professionally. Her instructional DVD from Creative Catalyst Productions, Sunlight on Oak Creek: Applying the Lessons of Plein Air to Photographic Reference, extends her teaching career and shows her passions for both teaching and painting.

Martha Saudek particularly enjoys capturing the light in her paintings. She is internationally known for her serene depictions of light and sky reflected in water. Saudek's subject matters are most often landscapes, but scenes will vary, as she paints rivers and streams, majestic mountains, clouds, trees and beautiful gardens all with equal facility. Painting exclusively in oil, her passion is creating scenes that convey her love for the beauty of nature.

A native of California, Martha Saudek is a graduate of Pomona College (an art minor), studied art at Scripps College, and pursued drawing and painting classes at UCLA and the California Art Institute. She subsequently taught classes at C.I.T. in oil landscape painting.

Martha Saudek's fine oils are in private collections throughout the United States as well as Europe, Japan and Taiwan. She has won awards in The Artist's Magazine's landscape painting competition, in Grumbacher's national Gold Medal competition and has had her work consistently accepted in the Arts for the Parks' Top 100 and top 200 Exhibitions; in the Cork Gallery, Lincoln Center, New York, NY; the Capitol Rotunda, Washington, D.C.; and the Tucson Museum of Art's Women Art and the West Exhibition, Tucson, AZ (two of her paintings hang in it's permanent collection). Martha Saudek is listed in Who's Who in American Art and Who's Who in American Women.

Martha Saudek's paintings have been featured in seven books including: Painting with Passion by Carole Katchen, How to Paint Trees, Flowers and Foliage and How to Paint Water by Patricia Seligman, Painting Shapes and Edges by Hazel Harrison and The Best of Flower Painting by Kathryn Kipp.
