If you’ve wondered about using acrylic and casein paints to create new works of art, but aren’t sure if you’re ready for the unique characteristics of these water-based media, this art instruction video from Stephen Quiller will enable you to proceed with confidence.
Join Quiller as he creates a landscape scene on location in Taos, New Mexico. Students of all levels will be allowed to watch over Quiller’s shoulder as he provides an exciting and entertaining introduction to the properties and possibilities of casein and acrylic paints. Although acrylics and casein are both water-based paints, and share some similar qualities, they can be used can be used very differently, alone or collaboratively.
Quiller demonstrates how both types of paint can be manipulated to create transparent and opaque washes, Impasto textures, and other special effects. Once Quiller’s landscape preliminary painting is established, he leaves the great outdoors to complete his work in the privacy of his own studio.
Students are again welcomed along as Quiller completes the work, using stunning acrylics to “make the painting sing.”
