Learn more in less time with Quick Studies. Craig Nelson's exciting one-hour sessions help you hone your skills without spending days on a single painting. Craig's dynamic approach works with any subject matter. In this workshop, he paints a floral from life and a figure from photo reference. In both demonstrations, you'll see a time-tested approach to developing oil paintings. Craig breaks his process into five basic stages, allowing you to identify your weaknesses at every step. You'll learn to pick the right brush, evaluate color, and rework problem areas. As you gain confidence, you'll begin to eliminate unimportant details and say more with less. As Craig says, "For painting skills, it is far better to paint 30 one-hour paintings than one 30-hour painting." Get started on your first exhilarating hour in Quick Studies in Oil with Craig Nelson.

Have just viewed my second Craig Nelson DVD: "Quick Studies in under an hour". Very impressed. I enjoyed his book" 60 minutes to better painting" so I shouldn't have been surprised. I've been painting now for over 10 years and liked his constant talking about first principles, use of brush, studying and painting shapes rather than getting "caught up" with detail.
The progression from the rough (but accurate) sketch to form/colour mass and finally hilights is the essence of effective oil painting and this film stresses those principles. Terrific learning film for a beginner but also of value to the experienced painter as a reminder of first principles.
Well filmed, good production. Highly recommended.

I am a big fan of Craig Nelson. I first purchased his book '60 Minutes to Better Painting' and found it informative for all levels of painters. I recently got a VHS version of 'Quick Studies in Oil' (I am from Canada, eh) and have viewed it many times to try and get all the great suggestions down. It is a great companion visual aide to supplement his book and having both a portrait and still life demonstration adds to the range of application. I am getting more of his DVDs ASAP and am booking myself for a trip down South for his workshop.

I just wanted to let you know how thorougly pleased I am with your videos! I have all of Craig Nelson's videos and I have learned more from watching and listening to him than from all of the workshops combined that I have taken over the years. He is truly one of the rare instructors/artists who can teach as well as demonstrate. I am able to follow his thought processes as well as his brush strokes. He is just superb!
