Do you love the idea of painting nature scenes on site, but find that it’s too overwhelming to choose a subject and avoid distraction once you’re finally there? In this watercolor painting video, master artist and teacher Gerald Brommer explains his time-tested techniques for capturing the drama and emotion in nature on the paper.
Brommer begins this watercolor instruction video with a demonstration of how to choose a natural location as he searches for inspiration for a seascape painting. Students will enjoy his explanation of how to choose the scene, how to know the difference between essential and non-essential elements, and how to gather information from the landscape that will carry the watercolor painting through to completion. After Brommer has extracted all the essential elements from the Monterey seascape, and gathered inspiration for the finished painting, he returns to his studio to revaluate his choices.
Knowing how to edit both the reality of the scene, and the elements that capture your mind’s eye is essential for creating an uncluttered composition. Brommer’s clear, patient style will help you to make decisions about how to convey the feeling, more than the reality, of a natural setting. Students will learn how to look for drama and relationships in a natural setting, and how to make the most creative use of space on the page.
Learn to emulate Brommer’s fluid process for establishing color, lights and darks, lines, overlap, clean rules of perspective to achieve a quality product. With the help of this watercolor painting workshop, students of all levels will have no trouble moving from a simple and quiet beginning to the complex and compelling finished piece of nature art work.

I took a class from Gerald in Sarasota 2 years ago. He is a FANTASTIC art teacher. He actually made us do things we didn't want to do, were afraid to do (that's what a workshop is for!) And we were so impressed with ourselves that we didn't want to leave. His DVD surely will capture the same essense. I look forward to buying it!
