In this drawing instruction DVD, The Colored Pencil: Getting Started Right, you learn about the basics of drawing, including how to choose your pencils, erasers and papers. Janie Gildow shows you the proper grip for pressure control and exercises to improve variegated and smooth tones. She contrasts and demonstrates the major pencil techniques of layering and burnishing and discusses the benefits of each. Janie describes important modifications when working on dark paper, shows you how to incise lines. She describes how blending contrasting colors is considerably different with colored pencil in contrast to liquid media. There is an important discussion about the color wheel. Janie demonstrates color layering and how she achieves her elegant hues. Extra resouces are available for download on Janie's main page

Many thanks for the Janie Gildow DVDs recieved five days after ordering them from the UK. Very good service.
The dvd's were wonderful. She has an excellent way of explaining her technique and it makes you feel as if you are there looking over her shoulder. Does she do portraits? I would be first in the queue for a DVD on portraits in coloured pencil by her or an artist who specilises in portraits. Any chance of this?
Once again many thanks
Yours Sincerely,
David D.

The Colored Pencil: Getting Started Right is a great DVD. I'm been teaching myself how to use colored pencils and this DVD could have saved me hours of trial and error -- very useful tips on materials and techniques. Janie Gildow is an excellent instructor and artist. Thanks for offering this DVD.

After viewing one of Janie's DVDs I ordered the other one and this was when I was merely thinking of doing colored pencil drawings. She made me WANT to dive in and not only learn colored pencil techniques, but patience! I also learned to relax, and get into a "zen" state doing this delightful medium.
I would like to second the question of David in the UK re: portraits. If Janie does them, I'll be next in line for her DVD.
Keep up the good work, Creative Cats and Catalysts!
