This demonstration is both a learning experience and an insight to a great artist. Richard Schmid paints an oil portrait of Captain John Adams in front of a live audience. He explains every step of his process: materials, drawing, color and value, warm and cool areas, use of a palette knife etc. Schmid demonstrates his method to achieve accurate drawing. He shares pointers on the best way to render specific features for successful results. He concludes the session answering questions from the audience. As a final wrap up, Schmid shares his thought on the larger issue of what it means to be an artist, the importance of nurturing our gifts and sharing our knowledge with other artists.
